Rodrigo Paz Pereira was sworn in as the new president of Bolivia on Saturday after winning the election runoff with 54.96% of the vote. His father, former president Jaime Paz Zamora, attended the inauguration and offered him valuable advice. Paz Zamora advised his son to govern with 'patience' and 'tenderness' towards the people, emphasizing that he has 'all the conditions' to successfully lead the country for the next five years. He also recommended applying 'direct diplomacy' in foreign affairs and respecting the social groups that were allies of the leftist Movement for Socialism (MAS) party over the past two decades. In his speech, the new president mentioned his childhood spent in various countries due to his parents' exile and thanked his father for his service to the country. Former interim president Jeanine Áñez, recently released from prison, wished the new leader 'luck' and 'wisdom' at the start of a 'new cycle' for Bolivia, which the population receives with 'hope'.
