Bolivia's Government Ministry Takes Over Community Justice

Bolivia's new government uncovered serious irregularities in the former 'Houses of Peace', including a lack of financial transparency and stagnant cases. The minister urges public cooperation and reporting of illegal activities.

The Ministry of Government has taken over community justice. The new authorities have found the situation in the former 'Houses of Peace' to be far worse than anticipated. These institutions, previously attached to city halls, lacked financial transparency. For instance, a $20 fee was charged for certifications, but the destination of these funds was unknown. Additionally, completely empty houses without furniture or files were discovered, along with courts where cases had stagnated for years. Minister of Government Dinoska Montalvo stated that citizens holding documents from old processes should submit them to prevent the need for their seizure. She also called for reporting any illegal activities. So far, 75% of peace judges have been appointed, with a goal of reaching 90% by January 16.
