The former president of Bolivia, Evo Morales, was the target of an attempted homicide when the vehicle he was traveling in received 14 shots. The incident was captured on video by a woman who was in the car with Morales and shows the moment the political leader, while talking on the phone, is alerted by his companions about the dangerous situation.
The video shows how Morales and his companions are forced to change vehicles after the previous one suffered damage with a flat tire due to a shot. Amid the chaos, the wounded driver, bleeding from the head, continues to honk the horn to advance on a congested road while Morales asks the locals to block the road to prevent the attackers from reaching them.
After the incident, Morales held the government of Luis Arce responsible for what happened, stating that a plan had been executed to attempt to assassinate him. This event occurs amid protests led by Morales' supporters demanding the government withdraw legal actions against him, which they consider part of a political persecution, as well as calling for solutions to various problems in the country.
The former president recounted that the pursuit of his vehicle occurred on the route between Villa Tunari and Lauca Ñ, in the Tropic of Cochabamba, by unknown individuals traveling in two different vehicles. Despite the incident, Morales stated that they managed to save their lives, although at least 14 shots were counted during the attack.
