Former Bolivian President Jeanine Áñez Released from Prison

The de facto former president of Bolivia, Jeanine Áñez, left the Miraflores prison in La Paz on Thursday, after the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) annulled the sentence against her in the case known as 'Coup II', international media reported. Áñez had been held in that penitentiary center since March 2021, after being detained in the city of Trinidad, confirms the Actualidad RT website. She left the facility accompanied by her children and lawyers and was received by a group of citizens who had gathered at the site, as reported by Red Uno. In the 'Coup II' case, Áñez had been sentenced in 2022 to 10 years in prison for acts related to her proclamation as head of state in November 2019, following the coup against Evo Morales. She was charged with the crimes of issuing resolutions contrary to the Constitution and laws, and failure to fulfill duties. However, the TSJ accepted an extraordinary review of the conviction presented by her defense and annulled the ruling against her.
